4.3.16 Casual spring outfits & lessons learned

Hi everyone!
This spring I’ve been reflecting on all that I have learned from my capsule wardrobe so far.
1. Taking intentional, purposeful breaks from shopping has made me more mindful.
Now I only buy items that I feel are missing from my wardrobe and I shop smarter. I feel much more present in my life and more in charge of my choices. I listen to less of the advertisements and marketing that we are constantly bombarded with and I listen to myself- its so freeing!
2. I buy better things.
The clothing items I buy now are of better quality because I am buying fewer, better things. Not all of my items are more expensive but I think so much more about what I am buying and where I am buying it from.
3. When I used to encounter stress or problems in my life I would try to fix it with stuff. If I was bored? I’d shop. Feeling unorganized? Buy storage containers. Overwhelmed? Organize my clutter.

Now that I have less I’ve realized that the excess was the problem. I now know that when I face these problems I should declutter my stuff or my life, or I should stop and face what’s really bothering me.
If I feel bored I revisit the items I own and see what I can further declutter. If I’m feeling overwhelmed or unorganized I remove something from my calendar. I feel free to say no to things that don’t make me happy or that aren’t a necessity for work or graduate school. I also take the time to check in with myself and my feelings more often.
Sometimes, the answer to our unrest or our unhappiness is to subtract something from our life or to simply stop and see how our heart and mind are doing. In my opinion, we can never do this enough.
So those are some of the lessons I’ve learned so far!
Below are a few casual outfits from my spring capsule wardrobe. I always find it helpful to see how other’s capsules turn into actual, everyday outfits so here are a few of mine. (Scroll over the pictures to see where items are from.)
